It emphasizes the importance of finding a sustainable approach tailored to individual needs. Here’s what we can glean from her various efforts: ### Bariatric Surgery One of the most significant turning points in her journey was opting for **bariatric surgery**, specifically a **sleeve gastrectomy**, in 2013. This procedure reduces the size of the stomach, restricting the amount of food one can eat, and it also has a role to play in modifying hormones that affect weight and metabolic rates. For Rosie, this wasn't an overnight solution; it was a tool she used within a larger commitment to improve her overall well being. While surgery has been effective for many, it's important to note that success hinges on making fundamental lifestyle changes to maximize results and maintain long-term health. The effectiveness is dependent on other changes such as eating healthy, balanced diet and sticking to the exercises program. ### Embracing Fitness After her surgery, Rosie became more committed to physical activity. She started incorporating **regular exercise**, understanding that this is a vital component of sustainable weight management. Her exercise regime wasn't about rigorous gym routines but about finding activities she enjoyed and could consistently maintain, like walking, swimming, and light strength training. She mentioned that incorporating such routine helped reduce her **stress and improve her mood**, showing that exercise offers both physical and mental health benefits. ### Holistic Well-Being Approach More than merely diet and exercise, Rosie embraced a holistic path to improve her well being. This includes practicing self-compassion and mental health care, learning to manage her triggers for **emotional eating** which was essential to her success. Also included a proper sleep routine, reducing the stress from her day. This underscores the significance of addressing both mind and body when on a weight loss journey. This more comprehensive approach promotes overall well-being that extends far beyond the number on a scale. It highlights the need to address underlying emotional, psychological, and even physical health factors. ## Practical Lessons From Rosie O’Donnell’s Journey Rosie's story offers some tangible lessons, that can guide others on a path to healthier living. These lessons extend beyond simple weight loss advice, addressing mindset, persistence, and overall wellness: 1. **Openness is Strength**: Rosie’s public vulnerability encourages honesty in dealing with personal struggles. This openness has created a community of empathy, helping others feel less alone. Sharing your journey, whether with loved ones or online communities, can make the path feel less isolating. 2. **It’s Not Always Linear**: Rosie’s journey how do the keto gummies work highlights that weight loss is seldom a straight path; there will be setbacks, plateaus, and temptations. The key is persistence, and learning from these setbacks. Be prepared to re-evaluate your approach as needed to make adjustments. 3. **Surgery Is A Tool, Not a Cure**: If you're considering or have opted for **bariatric surgery**, it's vital to recognize that it's just one part of the puzzle. To ensure its long-term success, it needs to be paired with significant lifestyle changes such as a good nutritional plan, an exercise regimen, and a good mental health and emotional support system. 4. **Listen to Your Body**: Find exercises and nutrition plans that work for you, that are manageable and enjoyable. Forcing yourself to engage in exhausting exercise or restrictive diet plans is not sustainable. Instead of following fad diets, opt for a personalized approach, where there's an emphasis on building healthy habits gradually. 5. **Mental Health Matters**: Recognizing the link between mental health and weight management is essential. Take the time to address stress, emotional triggers, and underlying emotional issues that contribute to unhealthy eating habits. Seeking support from therapists, or mental health professionals can be very effective in managing your emotional wellbeing. 6. **Focus on Well-being, Not Just Numbers**: The overall goal should be health, not just weight. Rosie's progress is a perfect example of how a focus on better eating habits, physical fitness and improved mental well-being leads to sustainable weight loss. The true aim is achieving a healthier version of yourself rather than fixating on a specific weight. ## The Ongoing Transformation Rosie O'Donnell's story is an ongoing journey. It's a reminder that **weight management** isn’t a destination, but a lifelong process. She embodies what it means to adapt, evolve, and prioritize well-being in the face of challenges. While her approach is not a universal template, her dedication to transparency, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement serves as an inspiration to those who have similar battles. Understanding her journey isn't just about watching a celebrity lose weight; it's about internalizing a holistic approach to well-being that integrates physical, mental, and emotional health. It also proves the need for self-love and self-compassion in the face of hardships. In her own unique way, she reminds us that with the right tools, support, and mindset, meaningful change is possible for anyone. The Best Weight Loss Drug Semaglutide 2.4 Hi, welcome. I'm Dr. Craig Primack, and I'm really excited today to bring you another medical minute. Today's medical minute is about a new weight loss drug that will at some point be coming to the market, Semaglutide or SEMA 2.4. I'm just going to call it SEMA 2.4 until we have a new name. What is Semaglutide? So what is Semaglutide? Semaglutide is a hormone, which is related to GLP-1. We all have GLP-1. In each of us, it lasts for about two minutes. So it's a hormone as food comes through our intestine and starts getting digested in the small intestine, the body sends this hormone through the blood to the brain and says I'm full. In you and I, the natural half-life is about two minutes, so the body has to keep sending more. As the food goes through, the signal stops and we get hungry again. It makes a lot of sense. Well, Semaglutide at 2.4 milligrams is an artificial form that lasts one week. It's related to a drug or two that are already on the market. Semaglutide does come in doses up to one milligram currently, and there is also an oral form available. The Weight Loss Study So, in the New England Journal of Medicine, February 10th, 2021, there was an article published and it talked about Semaglutide. So in this study, about 1900 or a little over 1900 patients, they either had to have a body mass index greater than 30 or a body mass index in their greater than 27 with a couple of, we'll call it, weight related risk factors, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, which is abnormal cholesterol, sleep apnea or heart disease. And they were put into two groups. One that was on Semaglutide as well as diet and counseling or the other that was on placebo. This study went on for 68 weeks. It gave it some time for them to get up to full doses or at least close to full doses of Semaglutide. On average, what we found is people on Semaglutide 2.4, SEMA 2.4, lost 14.9% of their weight, 14.9% of their weight. That is as good as many people who undergo weight loss surgery, whether it be the sleeve or the Roux-en-Y procedure a couple years in. Not only was the overall average high, but the amount of people that lost 5% or more weight was 86% of the population. The amount of the people in this study who lost 10% or more of their weight was 70%. So seven out of 10 people lost 10% or more of their weight. 15% or more of their weight was 50%, and about a third of the people lost 20% or more of their weight. That's where we're getting close to bariatric surgery. Semaglutide for Weight Loss is Coming Soon So this as a drug is not out today, but it will be out soon. I'm hoping sometime this year. Until then, what we need to do is continue to use medicines like Semaglutide smaller dose form for diabetes and pre-diabetes, and we are seeing amazing results even in the lower doses. We use other medications with or without those in certain people who have struggled so far with their weight and are just tired of fighting the weight battle again. We do use diets, as well as just reducing calories and using meal replacements, which we found to be some of the most aggressive diets that people can keep up for a long time. Gentle exercise and a class series that we put together. Put all that together, we get what we would call a comprehensive successful program. Thank you for being here today. I am really excited to talk to you about Semaglutide 2.4. I'm really excited sometime this year for all of us when it becomes a drug available as another tool in our armamentarium. Check back with me on a regular basis. As soon as I hear more about it, I will be letting all of you know. Thanks, and I hope to talk to you again soon. Bye-bye.
